Do I need to take the motorcycle written test if I already have a car license? expand_more
Yes. The Class M endorsement requires a separate written + skills test on top of any existing license. Some states waive the skills test if you complete an MSF safety course.
How is the motorcycle test different from the car test? expand_more
It focuses on controls (clutch, throttle, brakes), cornering technique, lane positioning, and motorcycle-specific hazards (gravel, road tar, rain) that car drivers rarely face.
Do I need to own a motorcycle to take the written test? expand_more
No. The written/knowledge test is paper or computer based — no motorcycle required. You'll need one (yours or a rental) for the in-person skills test.
