CDL (Commercial Driver's License)
Federally regulated license required to operate large commercial vehicles. FMCSA sets the standards.
A CDL is required for vehicles ≥ 26,001 lbs GVWR, vehicles carrying 16+ passengers, or vehicles hauling placarded hazardous materials. Federal FMCSA regulations standardize the testing process across all 50 states, though each state issues its own physical license.
