Florida DMV Test FAQ
How many questions are on the Florida motorcycle (Class M) permit test?
The FL DHSMV motorcycle (Class M) knowledge test has 50 multiple-choice questions drawn from the official state handbook — covering road signs, traffic laws, right-of-way, and safe-driving procedures.
Are practice tests harder than the real Florida DMV test?
Our practice tests are calibrated slightly harder than the real exam — questions include the trickier phrasings and edge-case scenarios so you're not surprised. If you consistently pass practice at 90%+, the real test will feel easier.
Do I need a calculator for the Florida knowledge test?
No. Any math on the test is basic mental arithmetic — for example, stopping distances or BAC thresholds. Calculators aren't required and typically aren't allowed.
Does the Florida test include road-sign identification questions?
Yes. A substantial portion of the questions test recognition of standard road signs by shape, color, and meaning. Practicing at /signs alongside our full quizzes is the fastest way to lock these in.
Where can I read the official Florida driver handbook?
The FL DHSMV publishes the official manual on its website. We also mirror it, mobile-formatted, at /handbooks/fl/moto.
Can I look at the Florida handbook during the actual test?
No — FL DHSMV treats the exam as closed-book. The handbook is what you use to prepare, not to reference during the exam.
If I fail, can I retake the Florida test the same day?
Typically no — most states enforce a waiting period between attempts. See the retake FAQ item above (if we have specific data for your state) or ask the office when they schedule your retake.
Should I read the whole Florida handbook before taking practice tests?
Not necessarily. Most successful test-takers skim the handbook once, then drill practice tests. When they miss a question they jump back to that chapter. This is far more efficient than a cover-to-cover read.
Should I go with my first instinct on the Florida test?
Usually yes. Research on multiple-choice exams shows changing an answer helps only when you realize you misread the question — not when you simply feel uncertain. Read carefully once, commit, move on.
Do I need a separate motorcycle test if I already have a Florida car license?
Yes. The Class M endorsement requires a separate written knowledge test and a skills test on top of any existing license. Many states waive the skills test if you complete an MSF Basic RiderCourse — check with FL DHSMV.
