Step 3 — Pay the renewal fee

MI SOS charges $18 for a standard non-commercial license renewal valid for 4 years. CDL and motorcycle endorsement renewals cost extra; check the official fee schedule for exact amounts.

Vision screening conducted at in-person renewals at a Secretary of State office. Bring your glasses or contacts if you wear them.

All newly issued Michigan licenses are automatically REAL ID-compliant; upgrading an existing standard license to REAL ID requires an in-person visit.
