Taking the Knowledge Test in Texas

Format: Multiple choice and matching questions; 80% required on each section.
Appointments: Yes — all in-office driver license services by appointment only, scheduled at public.txdpsscheduler.com.
Bring: Proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful presence, proof of Texas residency, proof of identity, Social Security Number, current Texas vehicle registration and proof of insurance for each vehicle owned, and (ages 18-24) driver education course completion certificate.
If you don't pass: Up to 3 attempts per application; after 3 failures, applicant must reapply and pay fee again.
Renewing Your License in Texas
Texas licenses are valid for 8 years and a standard renewal costs $33. Eligible if your last renewal was in person, you are a U.S. citizen with SSN on file, under 79, hold a Class C/M/CM license or non-hazmat CDL, the license expires within 2 years or has been expired less than 2 years, with no outstanding warrants/tickets.
